Swanndri & Ironclad - Leave Your Own Legacy
If you inherited a box of stuff from your grandma, you'd be forgiven for leaving it unopened and dropping it straight down to the nearest sallies. We don't need more junk. There's enough of it in our lives as it is.
But what if it wasn't all junk. What if, in that box amongst the mouldy newspaper clippings and musty tea cosies, was something practical and useful, perhaps even priceless and meaningful?
Like an old Swanndri, still as snug and hardy as ever, with every thread a story to tell of those who had worn it and adventures it had been on. Shake off the dust, pick off the lint and step into the shoes of your forbears.
Or a collection of cast iron cookware that could be traced back through several generations of your family. Just think of where it had been, who it had fed, how many happy mealtimes embedded into that iron - and how many yet to be made.
This was the inspiration for Kate and Levi Slavin, along with co-founder Joe Carter, to set up Ironclad Co. After inheriting some heirloom cookware from Levi's Grandmother, they began Ironclad Co. with the aim of creating something that people would be able to use their whole lives and then pass on to their children or grandchildren.
Now, they make a range of high-quality cast iron cookware that's guaranteed to last three generations - and is in hot demand. In doing so, they're not only revitalising an almost-lost culinary tradition, they're also enabling everyone to start their own legacy. To buy less by buying better. To have something useful, beautiful, and long-lasting that they can pass on to their kids and grandkids.
With everything that's going on in the world, it's good to get back to these kinds of more essential things. Like the outdoors. Cooking on classic cast iron over a campfire. While rugged up in a Swanndri made of the most natural fibre of all - wool.
You might say it was meant to be, then - a partnership between Ironclad Co and Swanndri. A collaboration built on a shared appreciation of quality over quantity, of doing something once and doing it right, and of taking every chance to enjoy the outdoors.
Together, we wanted to make something that would reflect these shared values and principles. That would be practical for the outdoors, useful for every day, high-quality and long-lasting.
So, Kate, Levi and our head of design Darren stuck their heads together and came up with this: a one-of-a-kind, limited edition camp oven (aka dutch oven). An ultra-practical and incredibly versatile piece of cooking kit, made from high-quality cast iron and finished with a signature Swanndri check.
It's made for the outdoors (but works in the oven too). For good food and good times spent together. And for making memories and stories that you'll be able to share with your kids - and maybe even their kids too.
Imagine it. Passed down through generations. More than a mere object. It will become memories and stories. Not junk or a hand-me-down. But inheritance. A symbol of family past and future. Your legacy.
There are worse things you could leave behind.
